Essential spots in Toronto, Bedford Academy John Tory - Mayor of Toronto in Blog.TO January 2015
A Party...A great place for food, friends, and a beverage or two. It is located in a residential area and near the subway station. The food is delicious and the beverage selection is very adequate. The staff is friendly and accommodating.
Nice Lunch placeWe had to wait for an appointment and looked for a place and found this one. Beautiful setting and great outdoor seating area. We ordered some light lunch and we pleasantly surprised.
Tasty food, generous servingWe enjoyed what we had. The chicken was well marinated and tasted great. So were grilled vegetables. It was pleasant to have lunch outside on a fine day. The table was a little unstable and insects were there, but otherwise it was fine. The server was pleasant and efficient.
Great Annex breakfast spotWe ate breakfast hear both mornings. Food was excellent, great caesar's, attentive wait staff both times. Good start to the day.
Alas, we were only here for drinks on the patio.Wished we could have eaten here, the menu looked great, not pricey, but an interesting menu, filled with tasty-sounding Canadian specialties. Alas, we were only here for drinks on the patio. Great ambiance.
Terrific Hearty Breakfast !Great atmosphere, beautiful courtyards for outside dining! Great service! Canadian bacon was delish as well as the home fries & eggs cooked to perfection! Good coffee, excellent Cesars! 4 hungry adults ate & had Cesars for dessert = $100 CDA including tip!
food/drink, reasonable prices, great staffI had breakfast and lunch several times while attending a business conference nearby. Bedford Academy is nicely appointed with several rooms so you can get away from the noisy bar area if you'd like. Comfortable seating. Excellent selection of brews (local and otherwise) and wine; good meal selection; great service.

Evening at the BistroCharming spot, perfect lighting and atmosphere, and well put together. Whoever came up with the concept and layout of this hidden gem is a man after my own heart. Friday evening, after some well needed respite, I couldn't have been more impressed by this gorgeous steak and cheese sandwich - I mean it looked good, and tasted better. The service was top-notch. Our waitress was both professional and a pleasure to have in company.
Really great venue for a relaxed large party dinnerWe work in Yorkville and wanted a relaxed, homey bar to send off a colleague in style. Our group fluctuated between 5-20 people. The setting was fantastic, with a relaxed Sunday atmosphere and we mostly had an entire room to ourselves to move around and socialize. The staff were on the ball! They had no problems taking multiple food and drink orders at a time, set up separate bills without being asked and all the food and drinks came out in a timely manner. We will definitely be back and look forward to patio season!
Good bar, impressive serviceWe had a large group gathering the other night. Maybe 25 or so people had a good section of the lounge booked off. I was very impressed that with 25 people each on separate bills and people were playing a bit of musical chairs and moving around the waiter still managed to get everyones orders right and on the correct bills. Besides that I was there for drinks, so the selection was good and it was exactly as expected. I can't comment on food, but the atmosphere of the place is good as it always has been. I like it better in the summer when the patio is open.
Freindly bar with a true mixologist making drinksWent to the Bedford Academy for after dinner drinks (being from out of town, our waitress from dinner at Museum Tavern recommended this place). The bartender was friendly and put a good amount of care into making the perfect drink--a true mixologist.
Great atmosphereAlways a comfortable place to come for a great meal. The service is good and the restaurant is in a quaint location close to Yorkville shopping and hotels.
Our first time there. What a fun evening! Braised short ribs for me and my darling had Mac and cheese. Well both were perfect. The highlight was the ambiance AND Chelsea our gastronomic "guide" (server)!! She was so pleasant, interested in us, and very professional!! If you get a chance enjoy this venue - it is worthwhile
If you're in the Yorkville area, and aren't a baller, this little street has two great pub options. The Duke, which is usually my go to, and the Bedford Academy, which is actually a little bit better in my humble opinion.
The Academy has a nice shaded streetside patio, reasonably priced wine and beer list and great pub grub. I recently enjoyed a bottle of Sauv Blanc and the chorizo mac and cheese while soaking up some rays.
This is a great place to have some pub fare and drink local beer while sitting on a lazy patio on the cosiest street in the city.
The last time I visited I had the Stout Pot Pie, which was hot, rich and flavourful, my guests had the salmon sandwich, which was a massive piece of grilled salmon wedged between a garlicky bun, and the NY burger. Both were more than pleased with their meal and impressed by the large portions. We had a pitcher of the Goose Ale and were really happy with the variety of beers on tap.
The wait staff was prompt, helpful and friendly. Mind you, we were there on a Monday evening. This place gets rammed on the weekend and is impressively large, so don't expect the most attentive service on weekends.
In the winter, the inside seating is cozy and inviting. They have a party room on the third floor for private events.
Really enjoyableI was in the neighbourhood and, based on the good reviews, thought that I'd give Bedford Academy a try. I'd definitely recommend it. The service was first-rate. Really attentive without hovering. Warm, friendly atmosphere. A really pleasant "vibe." I went for a simple meal: a BLT. So good! Loaded with bacon (nothing is more heart-breaking than a BLT that skimps on the bacon) and delicious. I actually couldn't finish my fries I was so full--that hardly ever happens. So yeah--I completely recommend Bedford Academy. I'll definitely go back.
I've been to Bedford several times over the years. The patio is great when the weather is nice and the inside has an authentic pub feel. My last visit was with a large group for a going-away party - our waitress was very sweet and super accommodating even with all of us mingling.
